Philosophy of Educational Technology

Technological aids may be used effectively to engage students in the learning process. Students live in an age where technology has pervaded all aspects of life, resulting in an abundance of knowledge at their fingertips. I believe that educational technology serves a valid purpose in promoting self-learning and providing the right environment for students to experiment and construct their own meaning, based on observation, manipulation and reasoning. Since technology has become part of our everyday lives, I am convinced that technology can play an important role in capturing students’ interest and ensuring that learning takes place on a level with which the students can relate. More than that, since it is an interactive means of learning and exploration, educational technology guarantees that students are actively engaged in the learning process, especially by means of collaborative learning.

With this in mind, I aim to use technology to improve my teaching strategies and effectively reach all students. I will use technology to encourage students to construct their own meanings while actively engaging them in meaningful and captivating lessons. Technology will be employed to encourage students to engage in research, application of knowledge and as a means of assessment. Such technological aids may include digital stories, educational games, webquests, and PowerPoint presentations. Educational technology will be used as an interface which actively engages students and provides the connection between teacher-student and student-student relationships. In this way, students will be able to enjoy the learning process and capitalize on the learning opportunities.
